Laying these various things on the road as he rode into Jerusalem was of course a symbol of his kingly entry.Īnd it all had a very familiar ring to it for these first century Jews. Matthew and Mark mention cloaks and branches, while Luke mentions just cloaks. John mentions the palm branches laid before him as he entered on a colt. All four gospels record this momentous event: Matthew 21:1-11 Mark 11:1-11 Luke 19:28-44 and John 12:12-19. In the Christian calendar Palm Sunday is of course the Sunday preceding Easter, and it has to do with the triumphant entry of Jesus into Jerusalem. ![]()
